Empowering Needy in Vavuniya

Under the Sight & Hearing Program of Nethralokana Sathkara, a special eye care camp was recently organised in Vavuniya on May 29^th, 2019, wherein free prescription spectacles were given to the needy after thorough eye examination.

Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) facilitated the program and assisted in finding suitable candidates from Anuradhapura, Vavuniya, Mannar Districts and from Welioya area.  Poor vision among the elderly is a major health care concern, particularly in the disadvantaged sections who can’t afford proper healthcare services.  During the program, 298 individuals including civilians and army officers were examined and 171 reading spectacles & 89 bifocal spectacles were donated, according to their convenience.  And 38 patients were referred to specialized hospitals to cure their illness, as their vision could not be improved with a pair of spectacle.
