Nearly 75% of the world’s blind are avoidably so.  About 50% of people who suffer from visual impairment or blindness are due to unaddressed refractive error, as well as near vision impairment caused by unaddressed presbyopia or have yet to be addressed. (WHO, October 08, 2019)  In most cases, normal vision can be restored with eyeglasses. 

Nethralokana Sathkara believes that ending avoidable blindness improves the economy, equality, skills and development of the country, while reducing its financial and social burden.      

While screening and providing prescription spectacles free of charge to the economically underprivileged Sri Lankans via eye screening programs in remote areas of the country and individual requests come through the branch network of Vision Care Optical Services, Nethralokana Sathkara intends to eliminate avoidable blindness, especially by educating public about avoidable blindness and how a simple eye test could resolve long term complications.

Our goal for every year is to help minimum of 1,000 individuals with their mostly needed prescription spectacles.  You can be the difference they need. 

While it emphasizes on serving the country to prevent blindness, Nethralokana Sathkara program creates avenues for individual donors to do their personal charity more effectively and local & international business organizations to achieve greater impact with their CSR initiatives by sponsoring for the necessary devices through their generous monetary donations.  At such events, the professional team of Nethralokana Sathkara takes the responsibility of finding suitable candidates (If the donee is not specified), facilitating the screening programs and after servicing part of the devices, free of charge.
