ABOUT NETHRALOKANA SATHKARA

Vision Care Optical Services (Pvt) Ltd opened its doors to the world as “Norris Optical Services” over two and half decades ago on 5th February 1992 at Norris Canal Road, Colombo 10, Sri Lanka. As the years pass by, the organization focused its energies on becoming the first company to take Sri Lanka’s eye care industry on par with global standards and progressed to become a leading house-hold name as a total solution provider in eye care.

The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) entity of Vision Care is focusing on inclusion through a variety of initiatives including supporting needy children, funding community projects happened due to natural disasters & manmade devastating situations, and financing health professionals in short-staffed fields such as counseling.  Vision Care believes in wider social needs to meaningfully enrich the lives of communities, so in 2014 it started to carry out several projects under these purposes.

Having successfully enhanced the vision of hundreds of thousands of Sri Lankans for quarter century, Vision Care Optical Services celebrated its 25 year anniversary in 2017, by officially launching ‘Nethralokana Sathkara’, a pioneering initiative to distribute 25,000 spectacles among deserving people from different parts of Sri Lanka at no cost.  The Sri Lankan Government intends to eliminate avoidable blindness by 2020 under the project Vision 2020. Likewise, Vision Care’s project also targeted this, especially as they educated the applicants about avoidable blindness and how a simple eye test could resolve long term complications.

After this life changing moment for over 25,000 families and the company, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) entity of Vision Care was named as “Nethralokana Sathkara”.  Currently, the Company is allocating Twenty Five Rupees from each pair of spectacle, pair of spectacle lenses and pair of sunglasses, sells to “Nethralokana Sathkara”.  It funds to carry out a range of small – medium term projects within the main three focused areas.  Other than that, preplanned eye care programs of “Nethralokana Sathkara” ensure that adults and children in need, including those affected by disaster, have no-cost access to quality eye care and new glasses fitting to their clinical requirements.
