DISASTER RELIEF

Nethralokana Sathkara supports fellow citizens affected by natural disasters as a part of its social mission. Based on disaster conditions and needs in the stricken areas during situations like Tsunami, droughts and floods, the team demonstrates its generosity by either providing immediate reliefs such as hot meals, dry rations, financial assistance, or their time when it is needed.  The relief initiatives include medium term reliefs such as caring for their eye and hearing health and provide educational support for children.

Apart from immediate relief initiatives such as provision of food, water, clothing, medical and other essential supplies, Vision Care arranged to contribute a total of more than rupees one million towards emergency help for the people and for recovery in regions struck by the Tsunami in 2004.

All victims of households impacted by the manmade disaster – the Easter Sunday Terrorists’ attack at Katuwapitiya Church and Zion Church received eye screening assistance through Nethralokana Sathkara.  The project was organized by Dialog Foundation and Nethralokana Sathkara joined with them as the eye care partner.  Complete eye check-ups testing vision, eye pressure and screening inside the eye were carried out for those impacted, and the required prescriptions for spectacles were provided free of charge, over 150 spectacles were donated to the needy.

All Vision Care employees are encouraged to invest their time in supporting a charitable cause of their choice.  Nethralokana Sathkara sincerely hopes for a swift recovery of the people and areas affected by disaster.
