Singing and music play an important role in our culture. From birth, parents instinctively use music to calm and soothe children, to express their love and joy, and to engage and interact. We all find music present in many aspects of our lives: radio, television, movies, worship, theater and celebrations.
The Music Project is a nongovernment organization committed to empowering and uplifting the lives of disadvantaged youth through music. Identifying how music can impact child development, improve social skills, and benefit kids of all ages, NETHRALOKANA SATHKARA is partnering with The Music Project to conduct music lessons and train children of Roman Catholic Girls School, Kotahena Colombo 13, to play orchestral instruments. Nearly 25 students who come from low-income households had enrolled in this project, which involved two to three hours a week of instrumental group music instruction in after-school. As its commitment to social responsibility through initiatives such as this, NETHRALOKANA SATHKARA sincerely expects that this project would help children to improve their academic performance as well as their cognitive abilities & skills.
