Screening Programme for Blind Schools
Driven by our mission to enrich the lives of communities, Nethralokana Sathkara, Vision Care’s CSR initiative, has always been dedicated to impactful areas such as humanity, children, sight and hearing, and disaster relief. In line with this commitment, we recently embarked on a project to support the Blind School Screening Programme in collaboration with the National Eye Hospital under the ‘Vision 2030 INSIGHT’ Programme.
The initiative, initiated by Dr. Dharma Irugalbandara, commenced on June 30, 2024, at the Ratmalana Blind School, aiming to identify and address the needs of blind students across the nation. We were honoured to respond promptly to the request for support from the ‘Vision 2030 INSIGHT’ Programme by providing essential resources and expertise. Our contributions included sending skilled optometrists with the necessary equipment for vision testing and refraction, ensuring comprehensive assessments for the 85 blind students at the school. Our team also diligently prepared the registry and gathered important vision data to facilitate ongoing care and monitoring.
Academy students participated voluntarily in this activity, gaining invaluable hands-on experience and exposure. Concurrently, Vision Care engaged in marketing efforts through PR articles and social media campaigns to raise public awareness about the importance of eye health and support for blind students.
The precise holders of this accomplishment are none other than our beloved Vision Care Group employees, as the company allocates every 25 rupees it earns from each pair of spectacles, spectacle lenses, and sunglasses sold to this fund. This collective effort underscores the commitment and dedication of our team to making a meaningful difference in the community.
Key collaborators for this programme included Dr. Dharma Irugalbandara – Consultant Pediatric Ophthalmologist, and Dr. Lalitha Senarath – Consultant Eye Surgeon and National Coordinator of the ‘Vision 2030 INSIGHT’ Programme. Additionally, Mrs. Kumari Fonseka – Group Director of Vision Care Optical Services and Senior Optometrist, and Mr. Vidya Jayarathna – Head of Optometry and Academy, Optometrist of Vision Care Optical Services played major roles in ensuring the success of this initiative with their expertise and guidance.
We are committed to continuing our support for the ‘Vision 2030 INSIGHT’ Programme and other initiatives aimed at improving eye health and the quality of life for individuals with visual impairments. We believe that through collaboration and community engagement, we can make a significant impact.
